Jewish Archives of Greater Buffalo. Selig Adler papers, 1932-1988.

The Selig Adler Collection, a component part of the Jewish Archives of Greater Buffalo, consists of Adler's correspondence, photographs, information on the Adler family, various news clippings, vitae, notes on a variety of subjects, lecture notes as well as his published materials including those of some of his colleagues and friends. Among his lectures notes and publications are Adler's writings, articles and book reviews on U.S. foreign policy, Jewish American communities, and Jewish and American history and on such subjects as Zionism, education, and civil rights. Of interest are Adler's notes on archives and the importance of establishing Jewish archives and documenting the growth and evolution of Jewish communities. Included in these are committee reports and notes that document the creation of the Jewish Archives of Greater Buffalo and the various administrative activities of the Jewish Archives in conjunction with the Jewish Federation of Greater Buffalo such as research inquiries, personnel, physical space, and budget matters.

The Adler family lived in Bavaria during the nineteenth century; some family members immigrated to the United States before 1900. Among them was the salesman Josef Gabriel Adler, born May 9, 1873 in Kitzingen, Germany. From 1893 on he lived in Baltimore, Maryland, and on February 19, 1907 he married May Rubenstein; he died in 1925.
